Our current representative, William Timmons. voted against upholding the 2020 election. That act alone disqualifies him to serve the people of South Carolina.
No one likes abortion. No one wants more abortions.
We reduce abortions by preventing unwanted pregnancies. We can make great strides towards that end by making long-term birth control readily available. We all want the same thing...fewer abortions...but we must not diminish one's individual rights to accomplish that goal.
The government does NOT have the right to invade your privacy, forcing women to give birth. Decisions about giving birth are not merely a 9-month inconvenience. It's a decision with life-long consequences for women and their families.
For 50 years, Roe v Wade laid out a workable balance between the needs of individuals and the interests of the state. Lee will work to codify our right to abortion once in Congress.
One of Lee's long-time sayings is "A livable wage cures many ills". She also refers to a livable wage as "the ultimate trickledown". Both sayings are packed with meaning.
The trickledown of livable wages begins with additional funding of Social Security/Medicare, the very system the GOP strives to destroy. Federal, State and local Sales Tax coffers also benefit. These wages are spent in the local economy, NOT used for stock buybacks as was the 'trickledown' from Tax Reform.
Livable wages make housing more affordable, whether for rent or qualifying for a mortgage. We cannot BUILD our way out of our affordable housing crisis in Greenville and Spartanburg, but we can WAGE our way out of this crisis.
And the gift that keeps on giving? When parents can support their families working 40 hours/week, they have time to PARENT. When parents have time to parent, their children are more likely to show up to school rested, fed, stimulated and ready to learn.
How to achieve a livable wage without causing inflation?? Get our employers out of the business of providing healthcare insurance!
While managing Healthcare from 1999-2012 as a CFO in the granite monument industry, Lee began to understand what impacted healthcare premiums. Later, after she saw premiums quadruple over the next decade, she pieced together what she had learned during those years.
When the ACA was introduced, we insisted the for-profit insurance industry currently providing coverage, to provide all the things we needed...coverage of pre-existing conditions, no lifetime limits of our coverage, and our kids to remain on our policy until age 26. We wanted everyone to have coverage.
Unfortunately for our pocketbooks, the ACA asked the for-profit marketplace to do ALL the things they did not want to do. As determined as the healthcare insurance industry was to maintain it's desired profit margin, well, you know the rest of the story.
Until we get the PROFIT MOTIVE out of healthcare, we will NEVER have affordable healthcare insurance premiums.
